About Us

Nika's Raw Dog Food is a local small business dedicated to making simple, wholesome raw dog food with only meat, fruit and vegetables.

Our Story

The inspiration for Nika's Raw Dog Food came from our energetic, loving, West Highland White Terrier, Nika. Over the years, Nika brought so much joy and laughter into our family.

Like most dogs, Nika was on a kibble-based diet and began to show signs of health concerns. A day before Nika's tragic passing, the vet declared her healthy as there were no realized signs of health problems.

So what happened?
Although we will never know the true cause, one thing we do know is that dogs were not designed to eat highly processed kibble.
Our newest additions to the family, Toby and Malibu, are the reason and passion behind the company and our values. Being Westies just like Nika, Toby & Malibu are our brand ambassadors who absolutely adore their raw meals.
Our goal is to remove the stigma surrounding a raw food diet for dogs. When it comes to raw meat, there is zero potential risk for dogs. On the other hand, raw meat contains bacteria that may be harmful to humans.
That's why all of our blends go through High Pressure Processing (HPP) to eliminate any potential risk. Now, your dog can enjoy his raw blend and proceed to lick his humans with no worry in mind!

Our Standards

Our dog food kitchen is only used for small batch dog food preparation to minimize the risk of cross-contamination. The room is continually HEPA air filtered.

The area is cleaned and disinfected both before and after with all pots, pans, grinders and food processor double washed and disinfected with boiling water and disinfectant. We take immense caution to provide safe and healthy meals for your dog.

The meat and vegetables are the same as you buy for your family. They are, of course, all approved by the federal food inspection service. We’ve decided not to add bone meal, though whole eggs (washed) with the shell are included to provide calcium.

Nika's Raw Dog Food goes through High Pressure Processing (HPP): a non-thermal, high-pressure food processing treatment. It is used to manage bacteria by submerging packaged food in a water tank. These extreme high pressures disrupt the cell membranes of microorganisms in the food.

HPP makes meat more digestible because the structure of the protein is altered, this means digestive enzymes can break down the nutrients more readily. HPP helps eliminate a raw food’s bacterial load while retaining a high level of nutrients in the food. Not only is HPP an effective sterilization method, it also extends a product’s shelf life.
